If Frank's hair is coming out I would advise him to just shave it all off. Otherwise you get hair on everything and eventually he'll look sicker with the patchy hair.

Oh, definitely, shave it off. And make an occasion out of it if you have it in you to have people over. One of my silliest favorite party memories ever is of the gathering we attended to watch Michael Lorant* shave his head -- seems like he had decided he was going bald and wanted to just get it over with but I can't remember now.
